Back by popular demand, Leia co-produced the second annual Arts in Action Festival alongside the incomparable BAC team. This year the festival spanned a day and a half and was hosted at New World Stages and Theater Row. The festival featured Bryonn Bain as the keynote speaker, and highlighted the work of JustMedia, Empowerment Avenue Films, and Zealous and included discussions about arts, activism, and abolition by Mariame Kaba, PEN America, Qween Jean, and Risa Puno. Leia co-directed the closing ceremony performance with Brisa Areli Munoz (Musical Theater Factory) which was co-hosted by Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins and Sloan Public Service Award winner Yolanda Johnson-Peterkin and featured NYC Youth Poet Laureate Stephanie Pacheco and world premiere of work from Tony winner Kara Young (Cost of Living, upcoming Purlie Victorious), Tiffany Mann (Waitress, Be More Chill), Shakina Nayfack (NBC’s “Connecting”, Hulu’s “Difficult People”), Britton Smith (Britton and the Sting, Be More Chill) and BAC Fellows Camille Thomas, UGBA and Andrea Ambam.
